I don't know about you, but the weather in Charlotte has been amazing! Cool seasonal temps in the 70's and 80's, a reminder that fall is just around the corner.
As the crisp autumn air ushers in a new season, it’s the perfect time to share the best fall color trends for 2024. As a colorist, I believe that a change in hair color is a great way to welcome in a new season and express your unique style.
Here’s a look at the top hair color trends for Fall 2024.
1. Warm Caramel & Golden Tones
This fall, warm caramel and golden blonde shades are taking center stage. Think rich, golden hues that add a touch of warmth to your hair. These tones work beautifully with a variety of skin tones and can be achieved with a range of techniques, from balayage to full-color treatments. The warm caramel trend is all about enhancing your natural beauty with a soft, sun-kissed glow. This is one of my all-time favorites for toning down my Barbie blondes. I use demi-permanent colors to warm up their color palette for a season or two, its non-committal and a nice way to add depth and richness.
2. Smoky Blonde
For those who love a cooler palette, smoky blonde is a chic color choice for fall. This sophisticated shade combines soft blonde tones with a hint of grey to create a modern, edgy look. Smoky blonde adds a touch of coolness and mystery to the season and and pairs perfectly with cozy knitwear and autumnal hues.
3. Deep Auburn
If you’re looking for a more dramatic change, deep auburn is
the color for you! This rich, red-brown shade brings depth and dimension to the hair and is a pleasing palette for fall. My go-to formula for brunettes is to formulate 20% of my formula with a copper red. The color itself is not life-changing, but just enough to add spice and create a little interest.

3. Reds and Muted Rose Gold
Vibrant Reds and Rose gold continue to be a popular choice, but for fall 2024, the trend is all about muted rose gold. This elegant shade blends soft pinks with golden undertones, creating a gentle and refined look. It’s a great way to add a touch of glamour to your hair while still keeping it grounded in the fall season. Again, another fun choice for toning down your Barbie blondes for fall.
4. Rich Chocolate Brown
Classic and timeless, rich chocolate brown will always be a staple for fall. This deep, luxurious shade adds warmth and sophistication to any hairstyle. It’s perfect for those who want a low-maintenance, elegant look that still makes a statement. Rich chocolate brown works well with both straight and curly hair, making it a versatile choice for everyone.
